Richard A. Ashby

IFA’s founder and Managing Partner, Richard A. Ashby possesses twenty five years of U.S. and international project and corporate financial structuring experience.  

Mr. Ashby possesses substantial international experience with development, financing and advisory assignments in India, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Kosovo, Russia, Italy, the United Kingdom and the Caribbean.

Since being reconstituted in 2011, IFA has been primarily focused on supporting renewable energy developers in the divestiture, acquisition and debt and equity financing of solar and wind projects. 

From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Ashby was the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc., a fully integrated renewable energy company that develops, constructs, owns and operates wind and solar projects across the US and Canada. During his tenure at RES Americas, Mr. Ashby and his team closed over $4 billion of M&A, project debt and tax equity transactions involving over 2,200 MW of assets and he played a key leadership role in initiating and managing a significant expansion of the company’s development, construction and operating activities. Mr. Ashby also provided active management oversight over the 10,000 MW development portfolio.
Prior to joining RES Americas in June 2007, Mr. Ashby was the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the North American power generation subsidiary of the Sumitomo Corporation where he was tasked with expanding the ownership portfolio though greenfield development and M&A activities. 

Between 2000 and 2005, Mr. Ashby held a variety of roles with strategic energy consultant, Pace Global Energy Services providing development, financing, strategic and M&A advice to utilities, independent power producers, governments, hedge funds and private equity investors in the power generation, LNG and gas pipeline and storage sectors.
Mr. Ashby spent the first ten years of his career based in Washington DC, and London, England involved in the development and financing of international energy infrastructure with project development and advisory experience in Asia and the Middle East.  

Mr. Ashby established IFA in 1998 to focus on the development and financing of energy infrastructure and providing strategic and financial advisory services in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. IFA developed or advised on over $3 billion of coal, gas-fired, desalinated water and waste treatment projects through 2000. 

In 1995, Mr. Ashby co-founded an energy focused, emerging markets private equity firm, Infrastructure Capital Group, LLC, where he led the origination, development and financing of coal and gas-fired power plants and energy infrastructure in South-East Asia in partnership with Tenaga Nasional Berhad, the national utility of Malaysia.

Prior to co-founding ICG, Mr. Ashby acted as a project finance and privatization advisor tasked with providing the World Bank, USAID, international utilities, regulatory agencies, and governmental entities with infrastructure development, project finance and privatization advisory services.  
Most significantly, between 1990 and 1994, Mr. Ashby was located in London, England, with an affiliate of the predecessor to International Power plc where he was a member of the development and financing team for the ground-breaking, World Bank-supported US$ 1.8 billion, 1,300 MW Hub Power Project in Pakistan.
Mr. Ashby holds an undergraduate degree in Finance and Accounting from the Georgia Institute of Technology, an MBA in Corporate Finance from SUNY-Buffalo and a certificate from the Executive Leadership Acceleration Program at the University of Notre Dame.
